ABOUT US

“Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future, and renders the present inaccessible.” (Angelou)

Peru has laws that protect its citizens from different types of discrimination; we can even find them in the Political Constitution of our country (1993). We know that. But have you ever wondered if those laws are more than mere letters written on paper? We have.

Although lots of people have tried to combat racism throughout the years, it is unfortunately still a significant issue in our country. It is, therefore, very common to face it in your daily life. Its victims are unfairly segregated and looked down upon. They have to deal with the effects that racism has on their jobs, their relationships, and their well-being. We want to do something about it and we would love for you to join us in the process.

Get to know us!
Hi! We are Maria Fernanda Castro, Cayetana Morales, Cristina Salazar, Maria Julia Lizarraga, and Nicole Quintana. We are a group of students from Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola who have a love for our country and want to make it a better place to live at. As a team, we have the initiative to share accurate information and diverse perspectives on the many faces of racism in Peru. We hope that awareness on the topic will aid us all to be conscious of our actions and how they affect others. This will lead us to fight prejudices already established in our minds and to be more respectful toward those who surround us.

Our mission is to spread trustworthy information about racism, its manifestations, and its consequences in Peru and its citizens in order to bring awareness to the topic and fight racism with the help of our readers.

Our vision includes becoming a source of reliable information and reaching a significant amount of people that care enough about our society to reflect on their actions, correct their mistakes, and make a change in their community.

Our values include social responsibility, honesty, justice, and empathy.

How will we do it?

In this blog, we will create several types of posts little by little, including podcasts, documentaries, text entries, and more.

We will talk about how and where racism is encountered in our daily lives, even in what seems to be the smallest and least harmful cases. By doing so, we will write about how the ideas of discrimination are often ingrained and normalized in our society. Naturally, we will also explain the toll that this problem has on Peru as well as the opinions that the population has on the topic.

Why do we do it?

We hold the opinion that there is a chance for Peru to be a country in which stereotypes and prejudices don’t rule or determine the course of one’s life.

Although we stand by that, we are also aware of what it takes to get there: for all of us to play our part in the process. Hopefully, this blog will be a tool for us to make an impact, to make a little contribution in favor of our society. Bringing awareness is always the first step toward the solution of an issue.
